They can be used in tight spaces and allow taps to be turned more quickly than non-ratcheting tap wrenches. The handle can be locked in a fixed position and slides from side to side for left- or right-hand ratcheting. This allows the wrenches to be turned in spaces where a standard straight handle or a fixed T-handle would not have room to turn.
